Shriners Hospitals for Children – Honolulu Team Providing Care After Saipan Typhoon

Dr. Craig Ono, Chief of Staff of the Shriners Hospitals for Children – Honolulu is in Saipan assisting with the aftermath of Typhoon Soudelor which recently hit the Country.

Chief of Staff, Dr. Craig Ono, Cherlyn Caneda, APRN, and outreach coordinator, Sandy Zukeran who were in Saipan for regularly scheduled orthopaedic clinics, are now treating victims, including a child from Hawaii who suffered multiple lacerations during the storm.

According to Dr. Ono, the typhoon was a category two storm when it hit August 2nd at 11:00pm. Injuries being tended to by the Hawai’i team, who is on-call at Commonwealth Health Center, include emergency room treatments for lacerations from flying glass and an injury to an individual’s upper arm bone.

Cherlyn Caneda, APRN said that she is, “encouraged by the strength of the people of Saipan.”
